چکیده

The eecient computation of the leftmost eigenpairs of the generalized symmetric eigenproblem Ax = Bx by a de-ation accelerated conjugate gradient (DACG) method may be enhanced by an improved estimate of the initial eigenvectors obtained with a multigrid (MG) type approach. The DACG algorithm essentially optimizes the Rayleigh quotient in subspaces of decreasing size B-orthogonal to the eigenvectors previously computed by a preconditioned conjugate gradient (CG) scheme. The DACG asymptotic rate of convergence may be shown to be controlled by the relative separation of the eigenvalue being currently sought and the next higher one and can be eeectively accelerated by the use of various precondi-tioners taken from the family of the incomplete Cholesky decompositions of A. The initial rate may be ameliorated by providing an initial guess calculated on nested nite element (FE) grids of growing resolution. The overall algorithm has been applied to structural eigenproblems deened over four nested FE grids. The results for the computation of the 40 smallest eigenpairs indicate that the asymptotic convergence is very much dependent on the actual eigenvalue distribution and may be substantially improved by the use of appropriate and relatively inexpensive preconditioners. The nested iterations (NI) may lead to a marked reduction of the initial iterations on the nest grid level where the solution is nally required. NI decreases the CPU time by a factor of 2.5. The performance of the NI-DACG method is very promising and emphasizes the potential of this new approach in the partial solution of symmetric positive deenite eigen-problems of large and very large size.

Parallel eigenanalysis of multiaquifer systems

Finite element discretizations of flow problems involving multiaquifer systems deliver large, sparse, unstructured matrices, whose partial eigenanalysis is important for both solving the flow problem and analysing its main characteristics. We studied and implemented an effective preconditioning of the Jacobi–Davidson algorithm by FSAI-type preconditioners. We developed efficient parallelization...

Finite Element Based Eigenanalysis for the Study of Electrically Large Lossy Cavities and Reverberation Chambers

An eigenanalysis-based technique is presented for the study and design of large complicated closed cavities and particularly Reverberation Chambers, including conductor and dielectric material losses. Two different numerical approaches are exploited. First, a straightforward approach is adopted where the finite walls conductivity is incorporated into the Finite Element Method (FEM) formulation ...

Complex Eigenvalues for Binary Subdivision Schemes

Convergence properties of binary stationary subdivision schemes for curves have been analyzed using the techniques of z-transforms and eigenanalysis. Eigenanalysis provides a way to determine derivative continuity at specific points based on the eigenvalues of a finite matrix. None of the well-known subdivision schemes for curves have complex eigenvalues. We prove when a convergent scheme with ...

Eigenanalysis for Membranes with Stringers Using the Methods of Fundamental Solutions and Domain Decomposition

We use a meshless numerical method to analyze the eigenanalysis of thin circular membranes with degenerate boundary conditions, composed by different orientations and structures of stringers. The membrane eigenproblem is studied by solving the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation utilizing the method of fundamental solutions and domain decomposition technique as well. The method of singular value...

Designing Custom-made Metallophone with Concurrent Eigenanalysis

We introduce an interactive interface for the custom design of metallophones. The shape of each plate must be determined in the design process so that the metallophone will produce the proper tone when struck with a mallet. Unfortunately, the relationship between plate shape and tone is complex, which makes it difficult to design plates with arbitrary shapes. Our system addresses this problem b...
